Design Trends 2021
Design trends change year over year and we try and steer our clients in the direction of something that will wear well in our luxury custom homes, and be in style for years to come. The over arching trend from many of the interior design power houses for 2021, is bringing the great outdoors, in. Sherwin Williams 2021 Color of the Year, Urbane Bronze is just that, “a color rooted in nature, but it also has a unique ability to ground a room through organic appeal.” Better Homes and Gardens, says “‘We’ve seen ‘Global Influence’ as a key trend for the season across both interiors and fashion. With warmer tones now often being favored over cooler greys this is a key interior trend that can be easily translated into the home.’”
Houzz has seen a trend towards light wood cabinets as well as counter tops and tiles in charcoals and grays instead of all white kitchens that have been very popular for years. We are seeing people leaning into beiges, and shades of browns coming back into play and bringing outdoor palettes indoors.
A simple way to give the feel of the great outdoors is adding a pergola to outdoor spaces. Houzz states that “simple shade-giving structures are relatively quick and affordable to build and can enhance alfresco activities like dining, working, or relaxing, making it quite possible to enjoy the majority of your day in the sunshine.”
Our favorite design trend is the “Stay All Day Backyard” coined by Southern Living magazine. The trend of fully utilizing all of the space you have, from putting in pools, to creating backyard work studios, to pergolas and fully operational backyard kitchens, we love finishing a home by adding in a phenomenal outdoor living area. Years ago we built a custom home in Columbine Valley, Colorado just out side of Littleton, we coined the “Universe House” because it is all encompassing from it’s basketball court to home theater, resort style pool, sit in wine room, and wood working shop. The perfect luxury home for everything Colorado has to offer. This year, as COVID continues, we hope to create more at home getaway spots for our clients!
